Spectttrum Profiles: Some professional journeys move in a straight line. Others keep expanding as new questions appear. Dr Vikas Sharma from Chhattisgarh belongs to the second category. A dentist by qualification, he gradually moved towards health education, physiology, health psychology, cellular metabolism and supplement science. Today, he is the founder of
I came across Dr Sharma
through my editorial work with India Book of Records magazine. He had set a
record recognised by both India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records. On 20
June 2026, he delivered an awareness lesson on Human Health and Cellular
Metabolic Science of Supplementation for 18 hours and 16 minutes. The duration
immediately catches attention. His professional journey behind those 18 hours
interested me more.
Dr Sharma completed his
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from
There was also a personal influence.
His father lived with health challenges and medications for nearly four
decades. Dr Sharma had once prepared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
His father’s health required greater attention, so he changed course, started
his dental practice and stayed closer to his family. Watching his father’s
health journey raised a question in his mind: could more be done to understand
and support health before disease begins dominating a person’s life? That
question gradually took him beyond conventional dental practice.
Health, Fitness and Wellness
Around 2015, Dr Sharma began
moving towards health, fitness and wellness education. He became interested in
cellular function and metabolism. He studied how muscles use glucose, how
mitochondria produce energy and how vitamins and minerals participate in
enzymatic processes. Supplementation became another area of study. Then came
psychology. Dr Sharma noticed something familiar to almost everyone.
Knowing what is good for us
does not automatically make us do it. A person may understand the value of
exercise and still avoid it. Someone may know what to eat and continue
following unsuitable food habits. This observation led him to postgraduate
studies in Health Psychology at
Towards Supplement Literacy
His next area of concern was
supplementation. Dr Sharma noticed that supplement products were becoming
popular faster than people were learning the science behind them. Consumers
knew product names. Many knew little about why a nutrient was required, what
happened after ingestion, who might benefit, what precautions were necessary
and how scientific evidence should be interpreted. That observation eventually
shaped his mission. “My mission is not to promote supplementation. My mission
is to promote supplement literacy,” he says.
Health and wellness
information today travels rapidly through social media, gyms, online
communities and personal recommendations. Dr Sharma’s approach begins
elsewhere. Understand the cell. Understand physiology and metabolism. Examine
the nutrient and available evidence. Then understand supplementation. His
learners now come from remarkably varied backgrounds. They include
professionals from modern medicine, Ayurveda, homeopathy, naturopathy,
nutrition, physiotherapy, yoga, fitness, gyms, wellness coaching, martial arts
and sports.
What started as answering
questions eventually developed into a pan-India professional learning community
and
There is another interesting
partnership in his journey. Dr Sharma co-founded HindVed Education and Labs LLP
with his wife, Twinkle Lalwani, a positive psychologist. Their initiative
brings together fitness, nutrition, psychology, yoga and preventive health. It
also works towards training wellness professionals and creating an integrated
preventive wellness ecosystem.
Understanding the Cell
One point in his philosophy
deserves particular attention. Dr Sharma does not present supplements as
substitutes for medical care, balanced nutrition, physical activity or sleep.
He places them within the context of physiology, individual requirements,
scientific evidence and professional guidance. That perhaps explains his
favourite sequence: “Understand the cell. Understand metabolism. Understand the
science. Then understand supplementation.”
It is a story that began in
a dental classroom, travelled through personal experience, physiology and
psychology, and eventually developed into a mission around health education. The
18 hours and 16 minutes created the record. The years behind those hours
created Dr Vikas Sharma.
