Creating Beyond the Canvas

Specttrum Profiles: Art is often seen through finished paintings, illustrations or exhibitions. Yet, its deeper purpose lies in shaping the way people observe, imagine and express themselves. For over two decades, Anjali Aggarwal has lived this philosophy as an artist, educator and creative mentor. Her journey reflects a lifelong commitment to transforming ideas into visual experiences while inspiring the next generation of creative minds.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Applied Art at the Government College of Art, Chandigarh, since October 2003, Anjali has devoted more than three decades to art education. In the classroom, she encourages students to move beyond technical skills and discover their own creative voice. Her approach combines artistic discipline with experimentation, enabling young artists to appreciate both the craft and the purpose of visual communication.

An internationally recognised artist, Anjali's creative journey extends well beyond academics. Her work spans illustrations, drawings, contemporary art, computer graphics, art communication and painting. Whether working on a canvas, designing a visual identity or guiding a creative project, she approaches every project with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail.

Before entering academia, she built valuable industry experience as Creative Director at Tuff Trak International and earlier as a Graphic Designer with Buhrmann Creative Learning. These formative years strengthened her understanding of design, communication and branding, allowing her to bridge the worlds of professional practice and academic teaching with equal confidence.

Her academic foundation is equally strong. A Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the Government College of Art, Chandigarh, she later earned her Master of Fine Arts in Applied Arts from the Aurangabad University, while also expanding her digital design skills through multimedia studies. This combination of classical art education and contemporary technology has helped her remain relevant in an ever-evolving creative landscape.

My association with Anjali began many years ago when she visited the Dainik Bhaskar office in Chandigarh in connection with a workshop organised by motivational trainer Asit Ghosh. Over the years, we remained connected through art exhibitions, creative initiatives and social media. I have always found her to be warm, enthusiastic and full of positive energy. Conversations with her naturally revolve around creativity, learning and the joy of discovering new ideas.

Away from the studio and the classroom, Anjali continues to nurture the same spirit of growth in everyday life. Living in Chandigarh with her artist husband and grown-up daughter, she believes that creativity is not confined to art galleries but can enrich every aspect of life. As an active seeker in the 5AM Bliss community, she also explores the connection between inner awareness and creative expression, bringing both sensitivity and balance to her artistic journey.

What distinguishes Anjali is her ability to keep creating while encouraging others to create. She views art not merely as a profession but as a lifelong conversation between observation, imagination and expression. Every painting, every classroom discussion and every creative collaboration becomes an opportunity to inspire.

In a world increasingly driven by speed and technology, artists like Anjali Aggarwal remind us that creativity remains one of the most enduring human strengths. Her journey illustrates that true art does not simply decorate spaces; it shapes perspectives, nurtures imagination and leaves a lasting impression on people and society.

When the Pencil Leads

Shital Verma : The Artist Specttrum Profiles : Every newspaper has stories that readers remember. Few remember the person who quietly shaped how those stories looked before the first word was read. For more than two decades, Shital Verma has been one of those creative minds. Through illustrations, typography, page design and visual storytelling, he has helped readers experience journalism with their eyes before engaging with it through words. His creative journey, however, began much earlier on the ghats of Varanasi, where a curious boy watched artists from different parts of the world sketching the timeless beauty of the Ganga. Without introducing himself or asking questions, he observed their strokes, returned home and tried to recreate them in his own way. Those silent lessons laid the foundation for a distinguished career in visual communication. Today, Shital Verma serves as the National Design Head of Navbharat Times , one of India’s most respected Hindi newspapers published ...
