| Ajay Himanshu: Corporate HR |
Specttrum Profiles: Corporate Human Resources today sits close to business strategy, organisation design, leadership development and transformation. Ajay Himanshu's professional journey has evolved along a similar path. Early experience in manufacturing and industrial relations provided the grounding; over the past twelve years, the larger canvas has increasingly been Corporate HR, global talent management, organisation development and enterprise leadership.
Ajay currently
serves as Vice President, Human Resources at Beri Udyog Pvt. Ltd.
(Fieldking), following his recent promotion. Another significant responsibility
came very recently with his induction into the company's Board of Directors in
the Director for Occupier role. Together, these developments reflect the
widening scope of a career that now brings people strategy closer to
organisational decision-making.
Organisation
development interventions, compensation strategy, Business HR, talent
management and development, performance management systems, employee
engagement, organisation design and transformation form major parts of his
current work. Legal matters, corporate communications and CSR add further
dimensions. While India remains the operational centre, responsibilities extend
across the company's international footprint and global talent requirements.
The foundation
was built at Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi, followed by
assignments with organisations including ABB, ISGEC and Reliance Industries.
These early years offered close exposure to workplace realities, employee
relations, compliance, performance systems and organisational change.
Manufacturing experience became an important grounding for the broader
Corporate HR responsibilities that followed.
A substantial
chapter came with Ranbaxy, where Ajay spent nearly seven years. His
responsibilities covered competency mapping, succession and manpower planning,
performance management, employee engagement and talent development, alongside
industrial relations. Working in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment
also strengthened his understanding of complex organisations and diverse
employee groups.
Our association
goes back to those Ranbaxy years. SpecttrumPR was then actively
working with pharmaceutical and healthcare organisations, and Ajay and I
interacted frequently around healthcare communication, doctors and corporate
initiatives. Those professional conversations created a relationship that
survived even when regular interaction disappeared for more than a decade.
The move to
Akorn Pharmaceuticals marked another stage in Ajay's progression towards
comprehensive Corporate HR leadership. As Head of Human Resources for the India
business, his work included culture transformation, integration of teams,
compliance, trust building and talent strategy. Organisational transition
arising from changes in ownership added further experience in managing people
through periods of change.
At Fieldking,
the canvas has widened considerably. Corporate HR strategy now works across
functions and geographies, with global talent management and development
becoming a major driving force. Leadership capability, compensation,
performance, organisation structure and employee engagement operate as
interconnected parts of the business. Legal responsibilities, corporate
communications and CSR further extend the role beyond conventional HR
boundaries.
There is an
interesting progression across this journey. Manufacturing created an
understanding of operational realities. Corporate roles widened the perspective
towards organisation-wide systems and priorities. Global responsibilities
brought different markets and talent requirements into the picture. Board-level
responsibility now adds another dimension.
Ajay's interest
in reading and continuous learning has travelled alongside these professional
transitions. HR itself has changed considerably during his career, moving
towards organisation design, global talent, leadership pipelines, compensation
strategy, culture and business partnership. Experience across different stages
of that evolution gives him a valuable perspective on where the function is
heading.
