PRAVEEN NAGDA : Creating Platforms That Communicate

Praveen Nagda: The Communicator

Specttrum Profiles
: Communication has taken many forms in Praveen Nagda's professional journey. Public relations, cinema, writing, events, teaching and cultural initiatives may appear to belong to different worlds, yet they have remained connected by a common thread; bringing people, ideas and stories together. Over three decades, Praveen has explored each of these spaces while retaining the curiosity of a communicator who enjoys discovering new ways to engage with people.

Author, Critic and Communicator is how Praveen describes himself today. Living in Mumbai, he is Festival Director of CultureCinema and KidzCINEMA, Founder and CEO of Peregrine Public Relations and White Coffee, a columnist and cinema critic, and a visiting faculty member at institutions offering programmes in communication and management.

The professional journey began with URJA Communications, an advertising agency specialising in technology brands, where Praveen was instrumental in developing its public relations division. This was followed by an association with Horizons Porter Novelli and subsequently the responsibility of heading the IT and Telecom division at Clea PR. Assignments with Omnicom Group agencies TBWA\India and Brodeur India further broadened his exposure to the rapidly evolving communications industry.

Those years created a strong foundation across public relations, corporate communications and brand management. The professional canvas gradually expanded to advertising, media relations, public affairs, strategic PR, perception management, crisis communication and reputation building. Technology, telecom, healthcare, finance, entertainment, films and tourism became some of the sectors that Praveen worked across.

Entrepreneurship arrived in May 2011 with the establishment of Peregrine Public Relations. Over the years, Peregrine has developed into a full-service corporate communications and public relations consultancy with pan-India reach. Its portfolio has included Indian and international companies as well as government organisations. Two specialised divisions have further widened its capabilities; Navi Digital works in the digital communication space, while De Jure offers specialised legal public relations services.

The range of organisations Praveen has worked with over the years reflects this diversity. The list includes IDEA Cellular, Hinduja Group, Wipro, Qualcomm, Sun Pharma, Kerala Tourism, Canonical UK, Abbott Vascular, Children’s Film Society India, IIT Bombay, Indian Institute of Packaging, Johnson & Johnson, Lilavati Hospital and Reliance Animation, among others.

Another entrepreneurial initiative, White Coffee, extended his work into events and celebrity engagement. For someone who had already spent years connecting organisations with their audiences through communication, experiential engagement became another natural medium for creating conversations and memorable interactions.

I have known Praveen since our active PR years, when both of us were building our respective professional networks. Between 2009 and 2015, SpecttrumPR and Praveen's network frequently collaborated and supported each other through assignments and opportunities. Those professional interactions gradually grew into a friendship that travelled beyond business. We have remained connected over the years and, more recently, through the 5AM Bliss community.

Cinema and culture gradually became another important stream in Praveen's journey. As Festival Director of CultureCinema, he has been developing a concept-based film festival that celebrates world cultures through cinema. KidzCINEMA explores another space close to him; children's cinema. Conceived as India's first online International Children's Film Festival, the platform brings films and young audiences together across geographical boundaries.

The association with children's cinema goes back much further. Praveen has been closely involved with several national and international initiatives, including the International Children's Film Festival India, National Children's Film Festival, Children's Film Festival Sikkim and film programmes in the North East. Cultural engagements have also included initiatives associated with the Jackie Shroff Foundation, a tribute to Akademi Ratna Pandita Rohini Bhate, the New Delhi Art Book Fair and the Raj Kapoor Awards for Excellence in Entertainment. He has also served on juries for various cultural events and film festivals.

Writing provides another window into Praveen's world. As a regular weekly columnist with Reputation Today, he has written extensively from his understanding of communication and reputation. A collection of his writings has also been published in book form by LAMBERT Academic Publishing. Cinema gives his pen another subject. His work as a cinema critic has appeared in The Daily Guardian, Times of Oman and New Delhi Post.

Academia has remained another meaningful part of the journey. Praveen regularly interacts with students as visiting faculty at institutions offering programmes in mass communication, public relations and management. These classroom engagements allow years of industry experience to enter conversations with young minds, while keeping him connected with newer ideas and changing perspectives in communication.

Away from professional assignments, Praveen is an avid reader, trekker and nature lover. Yoga and meditation have become more recent areas of interest. Together, these pursuits reveal the exploratory streak that has accompanied his movement across several professional and creative territories.

Looking at Praveen's journey as a whole, the different roles begin to fit together naturally. Public relations creates conversations between organisations and audiences. Events turn communication into experiences. Cinema carries cultures across borders. Writing takes ideas to readers. Teaching allows experience to travel to another generation.

Perhaps that explains why Creating Platforms That Communicate headline fits Praveen Nagda so well. The platforms have kept changing through the years. The communicator behind them has continued finding new ways to connect people, stories and ideas.

SHITAL VERMA : When the Pencil Leads

Shital Verma : The Artist Specttrum Profiles : Every newspaper has stories that readers remember. Few remember the person who quietly shaped how those stories looked before the first word was read. Through illustrations, typography, page design and visual storytelling, he has helped readers experience journalism with their eyes before engaging with it through words. Those silent lessons laid the foundation for a distinguished career in visual communication. Today, Shital Verma serves as the National Design Head of Navbharat Times , one of India’s most respected Hindi newspapers published ...
