Connecting Government and Media

Specttrum Profiles
: Journalism often opens doors to a deeper understanding of society. For some professionals, that understanding gradually expands into shaping public communication, strengthening institutional partnerships and connecting organisations with the government. Vivek Pandey’s career reflects this rare transition. Beginning as a field reporter, he steadily moved into government relations and public affairs while carrying forward the editorial insights gained through years of journalism.

Pandey is presently Chief Manager; Government & Political Relations at Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd. (Times Group), where he leads government engagement, public affairs and strategic business development initiatives. Working closely with Central Ministries, State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings, regulatory bodies and public institutions, he helps build partnerships that strengthen communication between government and one of India’s largest media organisations.

His journey began in journalism, where he developed a strong foundation in reporting, editing and public affairs. He worked as Senior Crime Reporter with Hindustan, covering politics, governance, elections, crime and public administration across Chandigarh, Delhi and Jharkhand. Earlier, he reported for Amar Ujala and also contributed to Dainik Jagran as a freelance journalist while participating in development communication and policy research projects. These assignments helped him build a deep understanding of governance and public policy while developing extensive professional networks.

Pandey later moved into digital journalism and editorial leadership. At ABP News, he contributed to strengthening digital news operations through multimedia production and political coverage. At UC News (Alibaba Group), he managed one of India’s largest content ecosystems, leading political campaigns, creator networks and AI-driven content operations serving millions of users. His editorial journey continued as Senior Editor at ZEE5, where he led political programming, election coverage and public policy content while collaborating with the Election Commission of India on voter awareness initiatives. These experiences combined editorial excellence with technology, audience engagement and strategic communication.

His academic background further strengthened this professional foundation. He completed his Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, graduating with First Division, besides pursuing studies through the Institute of Mass Communication, Kolkata. Alongside his corporate responsibilities, he has also authored the Hindi book Main Gali Hun, reflecting his continued interest in literature and storytelling.

My association with Vivek goes back to his days with Hindustan in Chandigarh (2008-09). During those years, he extended wholehearted support to the media outreach activities of SpecttrumPR and always treated me with the respect one reserves for a senior colleague. Behind his professional competence lies a cheerful personality that makes interactions easy and relationships enduring. Even as his career moved from journalism to government relations, that warmth and openness have remained unchanged. Beyond his professional commitments, he is also a passionate meditator.

What distinguishes Vivek Pandey is his ability to convert editorial experience into strategic public engagement. He understands both the language of journalism and the priorities of government institutions, enabling him to build meaningful partnerships that benefit all stakeholders. His career demonstrates that journalism can become a powerful foundation not only for reporting public affairs but also for strengthening communication between institutions, industry and society.

Shital Verma : The Artist Specttrum Profiles : Every newspaper has stories that readers remember. Few remember the person who quietly shaped how those stories looked before the first word was read. For more than two decades, Shital Verma has been one of those creative minds. Through illustrations, typography, page design and visual storytelling, he has helped readers experience journalism with their eyes before engaging with it through words. His creative journey, however, began much earlier on the ghats of Varanasi, where a curious boy watched artists from different parts of the world sketching the timeless beauty of the Ganga. Without introducing himself or asking questions, he observed their strokes, returned home and tried to recreate them in his own way. Those silent lessons laid the foundation for a distinguished career in visual communication. Today, Shital Verma serves as the National Design Head of Navbharat Times , one of India’s most respected Hindi newspapers published ...
