Building Markets, Building Trust

Specttrum Profiles
: Some careers are built by changing organisations every few years. Others are shaped by growing with a single institution, contributing to its success while evolving alongside it. Kewal Sahni's three-decade journey with DB Corp Ltd. (Dainik Bhaskar Group) is a remarkable example of commitment, leadership and consistent professional growth.

Beginning his career in 1996 as a frontline marketing executive, Kewal continuously progressed through a series of increasingly responsible roles across sales, marketing, business development and revenue management. His journey reflects not only individual achievement but also the confidence that one of India's leading media organisations has consistently placed in his leadership. Today, as State Head, he oversees operations across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and J&K, carrying responsibility for business growth, revenue generation and strategic market development.

During these three decades, he has successfully led diverse assignments including retail advertising, government business, corporate sales, automobile and real estate verticals, branch management and state-level operations. His experience spans virtually every dimension of newspaper marketing and revenue management. Whether launching new editions, building client relationships, leading sales teams or managing profit-and-loss responsibilities, Kewal has earned a reputation for combining strategic thinking with practical execution.

His association with Dainik Bhaskar also mirrors the remarkable expansion of the organisation itself. Having been part of the Chandigarh launch team, he witnessed the newspaper's growth from a regional expansion into one of India's largest media networks. One of the memorable assignments during those early years involved executing an extensive door-to-door survey covering nearly 1.75 lakh households across the Tricity (Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali), an exercise that reflected the group's research-driven approach towards understanding its readers and advertisers.

Beyond business numbers, Kewal is widely respected for his approachable personality and team-building abilities. Colleagues know him as a cheerful leader who believes lasting business relationships are built on trust, consistency and mutual respect. His expertise in advertising sales, strategic planning, client relationship management and people leadership has made him an invaluable contributor to the organisation over the years.

My association with Kewal Sahni began during our years together at Dainik Bhaskar, Chandigarh, between 2000 and 2006. While he handled responsibilities in the marketing department, I worked in the editorial division, looking after magazines, feature pages, sponsored content and business news pages. Although we represented different functions within the organisation, our paths crossed regularly through editorial-marketing coordination, an essential part of newspaper publishing. Those years gave me an opportunity to observe his enthusiasm, positive attitude and ability to build lasting professional relationships. Even today, despite following different career paths, we remain connected through social media and continue to value the friendship that began in those formative newsroom days.

What distinguishes Kewal is his belief that business growth is ultimately driven by people. Markets evolve, technologies change and business strategies adapt, but trust remains the strongest foundation of every successful professional relationship. That philosophy has quietly guided his career for nearly three decades.

In an era where frequent job changes have become commonplace, Kewal Sahni's journey demonstrates the value of long-term commitment. His story is not merely about growing within an organisation; it is about growing with an organisation, contributing to its success while continuously raising the benchmark for leadership, customer relationships and business excellence.

Shital Verma : The Artist Specttrum Profiles : Every newspaper has stories that readers remember. Few remember the person who quietly shaped how those stories looked before the first word was read. For more than two decades, Shital Verma has been one of those creative minds. Through illustrations, typography, page design and visual storytelling, he has helped readers experience journalism with their eyes before engaging with it through words. His creative journey, however, began much earlier on the ghats of Varanasi, where a curious boy watched artists from different parts of the world sketching the timeless beauty of the Ganga. Without introducing himself or asking questions, he observed their strokes, returned home and tried to recreate them in his own way. Those silent lessons laid the foundation for a distinguished career in visual communication. Today, Shital Verma serves as the National Design Head of Navbharat Times , one of India’s most respected Hindi newspapers published ...
