A Voice for Local Stories


Specttrum Profiles: Long before digital news portals became commonplace, Manoj Dhiman recognised that local stories deserved a platform of their own. While large media organisations naturally focused on national headlines, countless developments shaping communities often remained unnoticed. That conviction eventually led him to establish City Air News, a digital publication that has steadily grown into a respected voice for Punjab and neighbouring regions while remaining rooted in the principles of responsible journalism.

Journalism has shaped Manoj Dhiman's life for more than four decades. He began his career as a Stringer with The Tribune Group from Ferozepur, Punjab, during the 1980s. He later joined The Indian Express before spending more than eight years with Hindustan Times, where he served in editorial positions including Senior Staff Correspondent and Principal Correspondent. He subsequently took charge as Deputy News Editor at Daily Post. Earlier in his career, he also contributed as a stringer to organisations including The Times of India, Press Trust of India (PTI) and Daily Ajit. His association with journalism, however, started much earlier through cartoons, poems and stories published during his childhood in leading newspapers and magazines, earning him recognition as a promising young storyteller.

In July 2012, Dhiman founded City Air News in Ludhiana. What began as a regional digital news initiative has grown into a widely followed English-language news portal covering Punjab, neighbouring states and national developments. The platform has expanded its coverage across business, education, healthcare, industry, lifestyle, culture and public affairs while maintaining a strong focus on regional issues.

Alongside journalism, Dhiman has pursued creative writing with equal enthusiasm. He has authored eight Hindi fiction books, including novels, short story collections and poetry. His literary works explore contemporary themes and imagination, reflecting a creative mind that comfortably moves between factual reporting and fictional storytelling. His literary contribution also received academic recognition when Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, undertook a Minor Research Dissertation (Analytical Study) on his short story collection Jaagte Raho in 2026. He also served as a Member of the Board of Studies (PG) in Hindi at Guru Nanak Dev University from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2026.

My association with Dhiman began in 2012 during one of my press conferences in Ludhiana. As Editor of City Air News, he welcomed our media interactions with warmth and professionalism. Over the years, he has consistently supported SpecttrumPR by publishing numerous news items and editorial content. He has also carried my syndicated column Talking Points with remarkable enthusiasm, helping it reach readers across Punjab.

Our professional relationship has remained warm, respectful and dependable. In journalism, trust often grows through years of consistent cooperation rather than regular meetings. Dhiman represents that rare quality. He has always been approachable, supportive and committed to encouraging meaningful journalism. Beyond the newsroom, he is also a member of the 5AM Bliss community, reflecting his interest in positive thinking and personal growth alongside his professional commitments.

What distinguishes Dhiman is his belief that regional journalism deserves the same editorial standards as national media. In an era when local reporting often struggles for visibility, he has continued to strengthen an independent platform that gives voice to educational institutions, businesses, social initiatives, cultural activities and public concerns across Punjab and beyond.

His journey also illustrates the evolution of Indian journalism itself. Having worked in established newspaper organisations before embracing digital publishing, Dhiman has successfully adapted to changing technologies while preserving the core values of responsible reporting and editorial credibility.

Today, Manoj Dhiman continues to demonstrate that journalism is not defined by the size of a newsroom but by the commitment to inform society with honesty, consistency and purpose. Through City Air News, he has built far more than a digital news platform. He has created a dependable editorial space where local voices find visibility, important stories find readers and journalism continues to serve the communities from which it draws its strength.
