Neeraj’s professional journey began in business journalism, where he closely observed some of India’s most respected business leaders and institutions. He later moved into corporate leadership and held senior positions at Bajaj Group, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank and Reliance Communications. Over nearly two decades, he worked closely with promoters, managing directors, chief executives and corporate boards, advising them on institutional and individual reputation, leadership positioning, public influence and trust during periods of rapid business growth, regulatory change and heightened public scrutiny.
This unusual journey, from observing leadership as a journalist to advising it from within the boardroom, has given him a distinctive understanding of how enduring reputations are built, protected and sustained.
Neeraj further strengthened his leadership perspective through executive education at Columbia Business School and the London School of Economics. These programmes deepened his understanding of leadership, business strategy and the geopolitical forces increasingly shaping corporate reputation and decision-making.
He is also a qualified lawyer with an LL.B. from the University of Mumbai and is enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa as a non-practising advocate. This combination of journalism, corporate leadership, business education and legal training enables him to approach reputation as a strategic leadership discipline rather than merely a communication function.
My association with Neeraj began in 2019 through an unusual professional engagement. HDFC Bank’s Corporate Communications team invited me to participate in a Twitter-based campaign as an influencer. Although we had never met in person, Neeraj spoke with remarkable warmth and simplicity. The interaction felt like a conversation between old friends rather than a formal corporate engagement. Over the years, that professional association developed into a meaningful friendship built on mutual respect and thoughtful discussions.
Today, Neeraj is also part of the 5AM Bliss community, and we continue to exchange ideas on communication, leadership, books and life.
